We wish the Review Group wisdom in the exciting task of advising the Minister regarding the development of the NPH.<br \/>\n<!--more-->Serving the children of Ireland, excellence in clinical practice will be fuelled by extending\u00a0 and developing paediatric speciality and sub-specialty\u00a0 expertise within this new hospital.\u00a0 The hospital must be designed to be responsive to the future needs of children&#8217;s healthcare, with space to expand and embrace new technologies throughout\u00a0 the 21st century. Physical linkage to a\u00a0 Maternity hospital\u00a0 and on-site basic, translational and clinical\u00a0 Research and an academic University presence are essential.<\/p>\n<p>The Government must define and publish its policy regarding the rationalisation of the Dublin adult hospitals and their specialities. Correct planning and design of\u00a0 our National Paediatric Hospital, which is to be Ireland&#8217;s\u00a0 flagship children&#8217;s hospital for the next hundred years, must no longer\u00a0 be sacrificed\u00a0 to or compromised by\u00a0 the deficiencies of existing adult hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>NCHA&#8217;s wish for\u00a0 the National Paediatric Hospital\u00a0 :-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accessible to the children of the whole country for tertiary care -from the womb to young adulthood.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Accessible to the children of the Greater Dublin Area also for emergency and secondary care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0With a maternity hospital on a campus which will develop to be a\u00a0 truly 21st century University Medical Centre\/ Academic Health Sciences Centre\u00a0 -Yes ;\u00a0 squashed in with an existing adult hospital -No.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NCHA looks forward to dialogue with the Review Group.<br \/>\nEnds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NCHA Statement The New Children&#8217;s Hospital Alliance welcomes tthe announcement by the Minister for Health that the National Paediatric Hospital (NPH) Review Group has been formed.
