“There can never be enough parking” (Dr James Shmerling’s blog, CEO, Children’s Hospital Colorado )
Dr Shmerling, CEO of Children’s Hospital Colorado and Dr Mandell, CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital were members of the National Paediatric Hospital “Independent” Review, Dublin, Ireland( July 2011) which agreed with the government policy of putting the new Children’s Hospital at the Mater Hospital.
Here is what the websites for their hospitals -in Denver and Boston – reveal:-
Children’s Hospital Colorado – PARKING
“When we built Children’s Hospital Colorado [opened 2007]on the Anschutz Medical Campus, we miscalculated the number of parking spaces we needed. We spent more than two years driving in circles, walking extra blocks and discussing in Town Halls before we finally completed a second parking garage to accommodate our employees. As we embark on more large-scale construction projects on Anschutz [a 578 acre healthcare, education and research campus] we will, without a doubt, work to ensure we provide ample parking to accompany them.” Dr James Shmerling, CEO, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Denver, USA, March 2010 .
Children’s Hospital Boston – PARKING
Boston Children’s Hospital has a total of 3497 car park spaces [2504 on campus of which 1300 are for patients and 1204 for employees, and a further 923 off-campus for staff – it has 421 beds and over 3000 staff].
The Mater site for the proposed Irish National Paediatric Hospital will have a total of 972 car park spaces on four levels underground[736 spaces for patient parking and 236 for staff – the hospital will have 445 beds and over 2500 staff]. The car park can be accessed on two of the four underground levels from the 444 space adult hospital carpark!
We in the New Children’s Hospital Alliance say to the American CEOs
” And you Really agreed we had enough parking in Dublin?. Come on, lads.”
