ALERT -“Connolly for Kids Hospital” Petition

ALERT – The “ CONNOLLY FOR KIDS HOSPITAL” CAMPAIGN

NCHA has joined with several groups and individuals in the launch a short sharp campaign opposing the New Children’s Hospital going to the St James’s site .

Our key goal : National Petition asking Enda Kenny to change the Children’s Hospital to Connolly.

The New Children’s Hospital Alliance with the Jack & Jill Foundation, the Extra Special Kids group, the Dunboyne Mums, Aaron Daly of ‘Petition to Change the site’, Fionnbar Walsh (father of the late Donal Walsh), Jimmy Sheehan of the All Ireland Children’s Hospital and many other supporters from around the country will launch the ‘Connolly for Kids Hospital’ campaign tomorrow, Thursday, Feb 4th

We are asking Enda Kenny to build the new Children’s Hospital at Connolly Hospital beside the M50 -for easier access, unlimited parking, maternity and adult co-location and where it is cheaper and faster to build. The government could also switch the ‘Urgent Care’ centre planned for Connolly to the more suitable St. James’s site.

The “Connolly for Kids Hospital” campaign will have its own website, informational videos and the online Petition.

The website will also have a petition form for those who would prefer a manual copy – please print off and distribute as widely as possible to family and friends. Help us send as many signatures as possible to the Taoiseach.  Send the government a strong message that you cherish all the children of the nation and their childhood. Vote for children.

The website, facebook page and twitter feed will go live tomorrow!

The Tánaiste on”the medical advice to the Cabinet”

Joan Burton, the Tánaiste, recently spoke on Newstalk Radio of  why the Cabinet on 6th November 2012 chose St James’s as the  site for the children’s hospital     “In fairness to the politicians, the issue was to find the location that was the most strongly recommended by the people with the medical expertise….the medical advice to the Cabinet prevailed”  Read here- Joan Burton and Pat Kenny , Newstalk Radio interview transcript. 01.07.2015
Who were these “people with the medical expertise” that recommended  St. James’s  to the Minister for Health and the Cabinet? Is there a written record of their recommendation for this, the most expensive healthcare project in the history of the state? The taxpaying public has a right to see the evidence.
The Tánaiste, and her cabinet colleagues ought to read the Submission to the DoH/HSE  from Crumlin HospitalA-world-class-Tertiary-Childrens-Hospital-for-Ireland.pdf

GP Association supports Connolly site

On Saturday, 5th Sept. 2015, the 23 member Council of the National Association of General Practitioners  unanimously voted against the construction of the new children’s hospital on the St James’s Hospital campus.  CEO, Mr. Goodey urged Minister Varakar  to exercise leadership and reconsider the choice of “the clearly unsuitable site” of St. James’s hospital.  Read article in The Herald

NCHA  says ‘Thank you’ to the GPs and repeats- there is NO EVIDENCE that co-location of a children’s hospital such as the NPH  with an adult hospital improves clinical outcomes for children. The spokesperson for the NPHDB quoted in the Herald article is WRONG, WRONG,WRONG.

NCHA challenges the adult hospital medical community to produce the evidence. We are tired of children’s rights being sacrificed to adult  hospital ambitions. First co-location priority is with a full Maternity hospital.
